Rita Arantes’ exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in the energy, colour and emotion of the Romaria de Nossa Senhora d’Agonia, capturing through painting the unique spirit of Viana do Castelo. Born in Meadela, the artist has developed a career deeply connected to contemporary art, illustration and creative experimentation, regularly taking part in solo and group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad.
In this exhibition on display at Flôr de Sal by The Editory, the canvases capture the movement of the drums, the intensity of the streets and the vibrant atmosphere of the popular festivities, transforming sound, light and tradition into expressive and dynamic compositions. Colour takes centre stage in the figures of the cabeçudos, the traditional costumes and the gold of the mordomas, revealing the visual and emotional identity of Viana’s most iconic celebration.
“Viana é Festa!” is therefore a tribute to the soul of Viana — not only to what can be seen, but to what can be felt. A celebration of tradition, collective memory and the way a community transforms its culture into its greatest artistic expression.
