João Gama is a Portuguese visual artist, born on 8 August 1991 in Castelo Branco, Portugal. Holding a degree in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, he has developed his artistic career across painting, sculpture and ceramics, exploring the relationship between art, nature and landscape.
Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Brotar – Entre a Terra e o Céu (Sprouting – Between Earth and Sky), held at the National Museum of Natural History and Science in Lisbon in 2021. His work is characterised by the use of natural materials, such as schist, clay and plant ash, which he incorporates into his creations, establishing a connection between artistic expression and the natural environment.
In 2025, João Gama became the first artist invited to take part in the Beyond by The Editory project, undertaking an artist residency at The Editory Riverside in Lisbon. During this experience, he presented paintings and ceramic sculptures, transforming the space into an open studio that encouraged interaction with guests and visitors.
