Committed to sustainability — and aware that being sustainable also means promoting national contemporary art — we established a partnership with textile artist Vanessa Barragão.

Her contribution to transforming the hotel space in Lagos into a true tribute to the region’s natural richness has become emblematic. Through imposing textile artworks, she captures the essence of the ocean and the Algarve landscape using color, texture, and traditional craftsmanship.

    “This piece symbolizes the balance that the sea represents to me when I observe it.”
    Inspired by the serene hues of white and blue, Balance evokes the tranquility and peace the ocean conveys to the artist.

    The organic forms suggest the currents and the wind — invisible yet deeply felt movements — creating a bridge between the rhythms of nature and those of the mind.

    SUSTAINABILITY AND AWARENESS

    Balance is more than a visual artwork — it is an ecological statement. Created using waste materials from the national textile industry and crafted through ancestral artisanal techniques, the piece reflects Vanessa Barragão’s commitment to sustainable artistic practice.

    “My work has been very focused on ecology and sustainability,” says the artist, who seeks to preserve traditional methods such as tufting and crochet, breathing new contemporary life into them. By transforming textile waste into art, Vanessa invites reflection on our footprint on the planet.

    “I believe art is a powerful tool to raise awareness about the impact of our footprint on the planet and can, in fact, inspire change towards a better and more conscious future.”

    With Balance, we are invited to pause, contemplate, and reconnect with nature — with greater serenity, and a deeper sense of responsibility.
